It is fitting that North America’s oldest golf club, Royal Montreal Golf Club, played host to the inaugural Canadian Open in 1904. Since then, 37 of the country’s most challenging and majestic courses have hosted golf’s third oldest open championship. These courses have been the stage for some of the most memorable moments in Canadian golf history.

In 1904, John H. Oke was awarded a $60 purse and the RCGA medal for his win at the first Canadian Open. The intervening years saw changes in the eminent prize. Though trophies have come in many shapes and sizes since that first medal, the timeless excitement and glory of winning the championship remains the same. And like their notable winners, many of the Canadian Open trophies have been on their own adventures—one was even held hostage in a divorce settlement.
