FAQ

Why Volunteer at the 2010 RBC Canadian Open?

Volunteering is a great way to support the RBC Canadian Open, Golf Canada and the game of golf.  Nearly 2,000 dedicated individuals help contribute to the success of our national championship.  Most volunteers enjoy the teamwork and fun associated with volunteering at the Canadian Open so much so they return year after year.

How will I know my application has been processed and what committee I am on?

You will hear that you are on a specific committee via a confirmation letter once all applications have been receieved and processed.  This should be no later than March 1st, 2010.

When do I pay for my volunteer package?

You must provide payment with your application, but payment will not be processed until your position has been confirmed.

Do I have to work every day?

You do not have to work every day of the championship.  As a volunteer you must be able to commit to at least 24 hours.  The Chairperson for each committee will make the schedule for their respective committee.  This schedule will be given to you at your orientation meeting.

When are the Volunteer Orientation Meetings held?

Volunteer orientation meetings are held at, or near, the host golf club one to three weeks prior to the event.  Meetings are typically held in the evening to facilitate your attendance at the training session for your committee.  The date, place and time of the volunteer orientation meeting for your committee will be communicated to you in the volunteer newsletters that you will receive via e-mail in the months leading up to the championship.  These meetings include a detailed description of your duties as well as an explanation of championship week operations such as the locations of volunteer parking and the volunteer tent.

When do I receive my volunteer uniform, badge and guest pass?

You will receive your uniform, badge and guest passes at your orientation meeting which will be held one to three weeks prior to the event.

I have never played golf before.  Can I still volunteer?

YES.  There are 19 volunteer committees, many of which require no previous experience in playing or watching the game of golf.  There is something for everyone and we welcome everyone to participate in our national championship.

Can I come to watch the Open on a day I am not assigned to volunteer?

YES.  All volunteers are welcome to watch golf on the days they are not assigned to volunteer.  The volunteer badge is valid for all seven days of the championship.

Can I be assigned to volunteer with a friend or family member?

YES.  Please indicate on the application you wish to work the same shifts as your friend or family member and we will do our best to accommodate everyone’s requests.

When will I be provided with Tournament Updates?

All tournament updates, orientation schedules and parking information will be made available via the volunteer newsletter in April, May and June.  An electronic version will be e-mailed to those with e-mail addresses and mailed to individuals who do not have access to e-mail.
